I spoke too soon yesterday when I said I thought the tiredness had gone away.... I woke up this morning and I was shattered. I joked to Graeme that I'd only had the sleep of a normal person (7.5 hours) and not my usual lazy requirements of around 9 hours. As I lay in bed with the room feeling cold and everything pitch black I reasoned with myself that I could have another hour in bed and get up at 6am and just go to the gym later, but now that I'm used to doing training on a morning, I know how fab it feels when the sunlight comes through the gym cafe and I'm sat having a coffee and am suited up ready for work with all my daily exercise done. It's a great feeling, and one that I'm now accustomed to. I used to do the odd days' exercise early on a morning, and as I had my shower, I would feel like I should be sitting down to tea watching Emmerdale. I don't think like that now thankfully.
As I drove into the packed car park at the gym, I watched as a bloke drove in after me with his suit, shirt and tie hanging up in the back of the car. I smiled as I picked my suit and blouse out of the back of my car too.
Training was tough today and I got less distance done on the rower than I normally would for what felt like much harder an effort. A suana to finish off, and as I got showered/dressed/make up on and hair blow dried, I looked around the changing rooms to see about 8 other women all doing the same. Lots of suits and posh work dresses, I couldn't help but think this was so different from another gym I used to go to. That was full of beautifully made up women that would saunter along on each machine with not a bead of sweat dripping from their brow. Their hair was immaculate and they would chatter to the men lifting weights. Not here... everyone works hard (well, why would you bother getting up at 5am if you weren't prepared to work hard?), and the only time anyone looks half decent is once they're showered and changed and dolled up ready for work. An older bloke who I met in the sauna told me he was in there to try and elleviate his bad back, and when I saw him in the cafe afterwards I almost didn't recognise him, as he stood there smart as a carrot in a suit, shirt and tie. He didn't look twice at me... obviously the total clip I look when I'm training renders me unrecognizable once I've got my face on! :-)
