Sensible approach

Now that my mojo is back, imagine how difficult it was when I decided I should NOT run today. On Thursday I noticed my foot was a little achy (that's nothing new... I have a small amount of discomfort now and again and my physio said it's probably always going to be there to a certain extent) and then yesterday it was aching on and off for most of the day. I got home and thought about the last time I ignored my foot too much (and ended up having 8.5 months out). My foot is nowhere near that level of pain, but after considering the huge jump up in training I have done, my head took on the sensible approach. That approach being it won't change much in the lead up to Venice and it won't change ANYTHING for the lead up to the Yorkshire Ultra if I took today off from doing my 18 miler and had a rest day to ensure I didn't push my foot too far too early.

In order for me to stick to this plan though (because I know I'm terrible for getting up the next morning and thinking "Sod it, I'm running anyway") I had to do something that would definitely stop me from changing my mind... so I had red wine! I got up this morning and my foot feels OK (thankfully) and I was gutted to not be going for a run. I even considered running anyway (which I knew I'd do) but I told myself off and did some housework instead. It's a beautiful day outside and I'd love to go out there for my 18 miler, but I know in the long run (no pun intended) this is the right decision. It does feel like a waste of a weekend however. At least my motivational levels are high though eh?
