After an hour or so I did my core session, which was tough when you aren't used to it. The back bridge amazed me however... I can still do this without my hands! I finished off the day walking for a mile to callibrate my foot pod with my Garmin ready for intervals on the treadmill.
Today after work I went to the spa and did a 10 minute warm up on a 4:2:4 run/walk/run (keeping in line with my reintroduction into training after injury). I then did 3 sets of intervals of 5 minutes run and 5 minutes walk. The first one went fairly well at a 9.05mm pace. The second interval was again a 9.05mm pace but I had to hold onto the treadmill handrails for much of the 5 minutes. I thought doing this was better than slowing the treadmill down. The third interval was 9.20 for 2 minutes and 10.20 for 3 minutes. After the walk break I was absolutley shattered, but it's safe to say I really did give it absolutely everything I had. I couldn't (at this point) have ran any harder or any further. Overall (including the warm up) I ran/walked around 3.5 miles.
Afterwards I went into the steam room and managed a paultry 7 minutes and just couldn't be bothered. My face was like beetroot and quite a few people looked at me shocked, like they thought I was on the verge of a heart attack or something. Maybe I was!!! It made me realise I haven't used my inhaler for months. Maybe it's time to get it back out of the cupboard.
I had a lovely email from Cayman Islands Marathon organisers this morning (as did Graeme and probably every other overseas entrant). It had a few details in and said could we let them know our flight number so they could come and meet us at the airport on arrival and give us a goody bag, as their way of welcoming us to the Island. You see... this is why I like to pick random places for races around the world... I love this sort of thing that goes along with choosing a race a little bit different. There was a contact email with the invitation of getting in touch if you have any questions. I emailed and asked if water would be in cups or bottles and at the pasta party would the pasta be vegan friendly. I received an answer very quickly, telling me that water is available in cups and bottles and you can choose whichever you want along with Gatorade. They also said that they would contact the restaurant that is providing the pasta party and ask for 2 vegan meals. How great is that? It's much more than I was expecting.
Speaking of all things vegan, Graeme and I are going to stay at Rockcliffe Hall a week before we go away (for a night). This gives Graeme 2 days in the spa to get a last blast of heat training before we go to Grand Cayman. I emailed the hotel and said I would like a meal in The Orangery, and could any of the meals be veganised. After emailing the chef, a lovely lady emailed me back and said that the chef would design a vegan menu especially for us. How wonderful! People are very accommodating when you ask!
So, I'm totally shattered now and can't wait for my bed. I'm not used to all of this exercise!
