It's tendonitis. The report was full of promise, it mentioned metatarsals, tendons, tissues and the like, and everything was fine and nothing wrong... etc. It mentioned my tendon by my second metatarsal which had localised swelling but was described as "unspectacular". The podiatrist said this was great news and once my orthotics come this should totally eleviate the situation. I am to keep on with anti-inflammatories and renew the padding on my foot whilst not wearing my orthotics. All in all it's great news, but I'm to be careful over the next 2 or 3 weeks and I have a strengthening exercise to do for the surrounding tissues by picking up cotton wool balls with my toes.

Graemes' response to this was one of excitement, as he really wants me to go to Canada to the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in the middle of October. As this is a year that won't be taken up with an ultra, I think he sees this as the perfect opportunity to finally go. One of the major factors (outside the fact I need to recover in time) is money, however. Luckily they do a good deal with a running company and as we are one of the many couples fighting for insurance claims on old loans, I have said that by the time they are sorted, I will probably know one way or the other about how my foot is recovering. It's a lovely idea... if everything were to fall into place at just the right time....
