Back into the swing of things

I'm finally getting back to normal now. I have managed each session of training (albeit less intensity) since Friday, and each time I run, I find the ITB issue I have had since the race, takes longer and longer before it starts aching.

I'm getting some new orthotics and when speaking to the podiatrist he seemed genuinely shocked I had got through the ultra with no foot pain... in fact, I'll go as far as to say I think at first he thought I was lying when I said it hadn't hurt at all. "Amazing..... really ... quite amazing!", was his response. It made me think he obviously didn't expect me to finish. It's funny, but my physio was really chuffed for me that I'd done it, but admitted that he thought I'd lost the plot when I first told him about India. I think maybe a lot of people thought I was a car crash waiting to happen. Well, they'll not think that way for the next one, will they? ;-) Actually, the further I get into the ultra running mindset, the less I care about other peoples' opinions. I was quite dismayed to find a lot of ultra runners (who in the past have kindly commented on my injuries and the fact I was unable to take part in other ultras I had entered) didn't even bother to wish me well for Bangalore. They also didn't say "well done" afterwards either. At first I thought it was wierd, now I pretty much don't care, because all of the people who truly matter wished me well and congratulated me on finishing. As Shaun put on his Facebook status recently... "Those who mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind", which is a similar feeling I have about the whole thing now.

And I'm afraid my appetite has returned with a vengeance. In fact, I'm eating like a pig. I need to get back into training just to have a reason to eat this much...
