I got to the yoga class last night to find a group of people all with their own gear to do the class. Gutted! Graeme has often said I should get my own stuff but I didn't want to spend a fortune on it unless I found a class that I liked enough to go to every week. The teacher, Gordon, was very nice and gave me a yoga mat for the night... although it was quite old and delapidated and had definitely been sweated on from a number of people over a number of years. I decided there and then that if the class was good I would buy my own equipment.
Gordon, I have to say, was a very good teacher. Apparently he still teaches at the spa and it seems the lady who used to take the class I went to has moved away. He was easily as good as her... someone I never thought I would find, as she was brilliant!
I literally got stretched to my limits, and at one point he wanted us to bend at the waist with legs stretched to the side and put our heads flat on the floor at the same time... no way I thought, however I was one of only 2 or 3 in the class that could do it. Check me out with my flexible hamstrings... you don't hear many runners saying that do you?
The class seemed to either drag or go on longer than the time... turns out it is a 2 hour lesson. So, I got more of a stretching than I anticipated. The relaxation phase at the end left me so cold and frozen to the bone (because I was the only one without a blanket) that when I got home to find Graeme had switched the heating off AGAIN I could have fisted him! He's been warned that we are going to have to find a happy medium because I'm not freezing all winter for him!
So, today I ordered a starter yoga kit to get me going... to be honest it has everything I need so I won't have to buy anything else for it! When I got up this morning I felt like an old woman and ached horrendously absolutely everywhere. Only a few weeks ago I was amazed to find that very little was making me ache the next day... it just goes to show how fast you can lose fitness. I suppose you can get it back just as quick though, so I'm not stressing over it.
Everyone is getting quite excited over Amsterdam, and I have to say it hasn't really interested me yet. I'm not sure if it is just because the race means very little to me (by way of new distance or PB chasing), or because I'm focussed on the run in Scotland which comes before that, but I'm sure come the time I will be more up for it. I'll be honest, it's the social side of Amsterdam that was the sole reason for entering, and I'm looking forward to meeting up with everyone... the race is just something that has to be done along the way. ;-)
So, it's intervals tonight. That should be deeply joyous when I'm so achy an outing on a zimmerframe would be a better option, but there you have it. And another pulverizing appointment at the physio tomorrow to look forward to... oh how I love my life!
