Schools out

Tonight I went out for a one hour run, and mummified my sore toe as much as possible. I put some gauze dressing on, followed by a plaster and then finally my gel toe cap. To touch, it feels almost back to normal, but I thought that doing intervals today where my concentration does not stretch past the pain of the 10 minute sections, it would be better to just go out and do a general run and try to judge how it was feeling as opposed to trying to forget about it.

I began fairly slowly (around a 10mm) and was feeling good so speeded up a bit (thinking that I shouldn't totally waste a speed training day). I was really enjoying the run and the weather was perfect for it... nice and cool, overcast and enough drizzly rain that it seemed the Gods were smiling down on me today!

I got to the hills and inclines and decided to pick up the pace so I got a good workout. I felt quite strong, which is surprising as I began the run feeling very achy (especially in my back... still from the deadlifting I think). At 30 minutes I was much further on than I normally get to and half expected the second part of the run to be much slower. This didn't happen, and I continued to run well.
Some kids outside a shop asked was I not cold (I was in a vest and shorts... it was probably cool by this time). I laughed and said I felt quite warm. A little further on and a group of lads on bikes shouted over to me that if I ran a bit faster I'd beat the horse on the road opposite me. (No chance... maybe if I could run a 7 minute mile). I then passed a couple of kids telling me to lift my knees up... you can tell schools out for summer!

I got back home and found I had done the run at a 9.28mm average pace. Another training PB! It's very encouraging after all the problems I've had... long may it continue! I took my plasters off my toe to find it looked and felt exactly the same as it did before I went out for my run, so thankfully it looks like it really is finally getting back to normal. Brilliant!!!
