Slow motion

I was expecting a busy day at work , but that didn't transpire. I can't complain, it was just one of those days that went well and everything got done quick smart! Because of this I had time to go out and buy a magazine. Looking at the array in WHSmiths, it became quickly apparent that the only one I hadn't read was "Mens Running". I have avoided this mag for weeks, thinking it was quite sexist, however today I pretty much had no choice... it was that or nowt. I must point out here that I later found out they also do a "Womens Running", but it seems we are all fat lardy lazy arses in Hartlepool as there was no requirement for such a mag in the store!

I read about salt and sodium deficiencies while running, and it said that when you run and do other forms of exercise, having too much salt in your daily diet wasn't a problem as you would just sweat it out. I'm always so careful not to eat too much salt too! William and Shaun have suggested that I try more electrolytes this weekend on my long run to see if it makes a difference with the cramp, so we shall see how that transpires!

I went out for a run when I got home. I was gutted to find my new trail shoes have been delivered but are being held at the post office and I can't pick them up for 24 hours. I had to wear my road shoes, but I didn't think this would be too much of an issue. I like to do my 45 minute run on trail as it is definitely keeping me fit and getting me more used to the uneven surfaces.
I ran down a steep hill and at the bottom I was forced to jump over a huge puddle and a few stray tree roots. As I was jumping through the air it was like I was in slow motion and I had a full blown conversation with myself. It went something like this... "Oh my God I'm going to land on the toes of my bad foot... that's not good. Could I land flatter footed? No, I'd twist my ankle. I haven't landed on my toes with my full weight for months ... it's gonna knack... it's gonna knack... oh God!" And then my toes contacted the ground with the full weight of my body behind them... and it was fine! My foot really is much better than I give it credit for!

I ran up a really steep hill (I sometimes walk this with the dog and have to rest at the top). I managed to get almost to the top where there are about 10 or 12 steps. I got about 5 steps up and had to walk. Not bad I suppose. The rest of the run was very uncomfortable as road shoes really are shit when you're running on trail! I felt like my feet were slipping all over and my ankles felt very unstable. I have finally learnt the value of a good trail shoe.

I came home and had my recovery drink and a meal, did my squats (which went quite well, I can now do a static for 10 seconds with 125KG on the bar) and I then did my upper body weights and went up by around 5KG for all but one of the exercises.
So... junk TV and a cup of green tea is all that's left for me to do now!
I also need to book a hotel for the end of next month. We are off to do a 30 miler in Scotland (although this will not all be running). So, that will be a big confidence boost, to know I can actually go further than the elusive 26.2 miles!
