I've had a fabulous 2 days away... it really has been very good, staying in a gorgeous hotel and having an adrenaline packed day at Thorpe Park. Before I left, I had a bit of bad news at work (which I'll not go into, but basically it means my job is in jeopardy). I was annoyed more than upset, and am now wondering if it's worth fighting for. I'm not sure... my views are probably skewed at the moment from sheer annoyance so I won't be making any decisions anytime soon.
Anyway, it has always been our plan that as soon as our 2 days away was over, we would have a new start on the fitness/training/eating/alcohol front. Last night was our last alcoholic drink until Amsterdam marathon. We have gone on the wagon and lasted 2 years in the past, so this won't be much of an issue. Eating sensibly will be much more difficult. We have decided to have 1 day a week where there are no restrictions and we can have whatever we fancy. After much deliberation, we decided Sunday was the best day for this... what with Sunday dinner at my mams house and our love for fajitas on a Sunday evening.
We got into the car for the drive back home, and decided to stop en route to have breakfast. This ended up being our first problematic meal... no matter where we looked it was all rubbishy. Graeme decided to have a Burger King but then thought better of it when I didn't agree to have one too (I think he felt guilty), but we probably ended up with an even worse nutritionally balanced meal because we ended up having a cheese and ham toastie. Forward planning will definitely be a necessity if we are to stick to the plan well, so we called at Marks and Spencers and got smoothies, fruit, nice veg and some other bits and bobs. We have the kids tonight but they love a proper dinner and so I'm making turkey with vegetables. My son always prefers this sort of food to takeaways, I hope he always feels the same way as he gets older, so he stays fit and healthy.
I ran on the treadmill today in my XL vest for 45 minutes. Doing this successfully means that I can now go back to my usual timings for runs (ie, 60 minutes run Monday, 60 minutes Tuesday, 45 Wednesday and I shall start off with 60 minutes in my XL vest next Saturday and build up from there). At the moment I will stick to the five minutes run and one minute walk as todays effort was definitely a struggle. The gym was 22 degrees again, but to be honest it felt much much warmer. The XL vest makes the running much harder work, so I just have to accept it will take a little while to get back to where I was before my foot injury.
Graeme goes to the physio on Monday to see about his knee. He has very sensibly decided that if he can't do at least a 25 mile long run in training for Clyde Stride he will not attempt it.
Sounds like a great weekend...and the whole diet/fitness thing is always so much easier when it's both of you doing it together - good luck! Those M&S Simply Food places on the motorway were my salvation!
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope everything works out ok for you on the job front...
