First full day

Today has been my first full day of training since I became injured in February. I did my 1 hour run (although I am still forced to stick to my 5:1 run/walk ratio mainly due to a lack of fitness than my foot giving me problems) and it was harder than I expected. I forgot to take my inhaler and realised as my chest tightened about 6 minutes into the run. The pollen was quite high and I could smell the rapeseed (which makes my eyes itch...although that didn't happen today fortunately) and the wind was really quite strong. I was very pleased though, as the hills are something I haven't ran on for weeks so I managed OK considering.

This afternoon I did my core exercises, which I have to say I dread because they are so hard! I was pleased to do 60 air borne running steps for 2 sets and 70 for the last set. I must be improving as the first time I tried this I only did 15 steps and thought my torso was going to cramp up indefinitely. I can now rock quite well for the rocking horse exercise but still fall about in a heap afterwards trying to recover.

My "Far Infrared Sauna" came today, so I decided to have a go of that too. The plan for now is to use it 3 times a week for 30 minutes, although I thought I would start off easy with a 15 minute session. This didn't go to plan as after 10 minutes I thought my skin was going to burn off... so i decided to cut it short and build up as slow as I need to. The sweat was pouring off me, although my calves feeling so hot was what put payed to doing a longer session today!

So, tomorrow should be my speed session day, although I am definitely not ready for that yet so I have talked Graeme into coming deep water running with me. He isn't exactly bowled over by the idea but has reluctantly agreed to give it a go as he can use my buoyancy belt now that I have my new suit.
He went to the physio today and was told relatively good news... his knee is not tracking properly but it is easily remedied, and he has a touch of shin splints that is also easily fixed by doing calf stretches which he thinks has caused the issue in the first place. The bad news is, the physio doesn't think he will be ready to run 40 miles by Clyde Stride, so he is taking the advice and waiting to do Amsterdam and India the same as me. He doesn't seem upset about it, so it isn't a major issue.

It's going good on the food front too. I have only had super dooper healthy food today, and it was the same yesterday apart from a cheeky curry last night (seeing as Sunday is our "naughty food day". :-)
