This morning I got up feeling really refreshed and wide awake by 0630. They reckon that when you're able to sleep in, you go through a sort of "sleep debt" thing... whatever you need to pay back by way of lack of sleep is done over a few days... once the sleep debt is payed back, you're back to waking at your normal time. And there it is... slept 2 hours more on Monday and Tuesday and now I'm sorted!
I ate a banana and was out for a run before I could think too much about it. I had the odd sickly feeling as I'm not good running that early, but overall it was a good run averaging 10.06 pace.
I mentioned to Graeme we should maybe get one of those Luma things (can't remember the exact name/make) that you preset to light up your room on dark mornings so you're able to get up more refreshed...although I'm not sure I could handle running before work every day. The only day I have ever got up early to run was last year in November. I had to be back by 11.30 as my parents and son were coming back from America, so I left at 7am. I remember watching the sun come up during my 8th mile with another 12 miles to go. It was really lovely!
My first adjustment to my training came through on an email from William today, and I have to say I'm most excited at the prospect. I'm to add 15 minutes to my XL long run every week in the run up to Florence. That means, ignoring next week as it is a race and the final 2 weeks for a taper, I will be doing my final long run a fortnight before the marathon, of 3 hours and 30 minutes! This is great, as I once (funnily enough... the run I have mentioned earlier in this blog) did a 20 mile run in 3 hours and 40 minutes.
I think this will give me a lot of confidence on covering the distance in a faster time on the day of the marathon. After all, however far I can run in 3.5 hours will be slower than Florence... because I'll not have my XL vest on for the race. ;-)
On a much more boring note... I spent all morning ironing. I'll be looking forward to going back to work at this rate!
