Barefoot

These photos show the wear on my trainers, and I'm rather pleased with my progress so far. The blue pair have 191 miles in them (very typical mileage for a pair of trainers in the past for me) and the pink pair has 202 miles so far in them. Excellent stuff eh? I've been wearing the pink pair for the last couple of months and really trying to concentrate on running more efficiently.

Tonight was my first attempt at barefoot running.
I did my 10 minutes skipping first (which I have to say I really am improving immensley on... twice as many skips this week before tripping over the rope than last week!) and then I walked into the gym and proceeded to take off my trainers and socks. I got some strange looks.
Running barefoot for a given length of time was actually harder than it sounds. At first I felt like I was quick and quite nimble... almost like I was creeping up on someone (if that makes sense), but by the end of the 10 minutes my feet were burning (obviously not used to having no soft cushiony socks and orthotics... my orthotics are very comfy!) I really did enjoy it though, and am looking forward to becoming more efficient as time goes by.

Intervals went well today too. I managed 2 lots at 9.05mm pace, and the final interval at 9.36mm pace for 2 minutes and 8 minutes at 10.10mm .... no walking today as the recoveries were done at a jogging pace! :-)

  1. Are you setting the treadmill at a slower/faster pace than usual when you're barefoot? Or on more/less of an incline than usual? I'm just interested... :-)

  2. I set it to a warm up pace Pegg (in this case it was 11.30mm pace) and it's always set to level.
