Backwards

Yesterday I was a bit miffed to wake up totally pain free. What? No aching calves or feet from skipping so fast and then doing barefoot running? Hmmmm.... maybe I didn't try hard enough! Most people probably hate DOMS but I like them. It's a pain I feel I have earned the right to feel because I have worked hard in training.

When I came back from the run last night, I felt quite achy in my calves and so stretched them 2 or 3 times. I also have a massage stick, which I used half heartedly as everything seemed to be OK.

So, during the night when I woke up needing to go to the toilet (which is downstairs in my house) I was completely shocked when I stepped out of bed and could barely move. My calves were in agony and I couldn't walk properly.
I started to go downstairs and literally couldn't because they hurt so much. With disbelief, I turned around and walked down the stairs backwards. BACKWARDS.... I had heard of people having to do this after Loch Ness Marathon and some after Windermere... not me... I was fine, yet here I was having to do it now.

Getting up a few hours later, I was dreading having to make the same trip downstairs however it was much better and I was able to walk down them properly. I have since stretched a number of times and used the massage stick. Moving around has made them feel fine, but what a shock that was to me during the night... and please don't ask me to stand on my tiptoes today, because I daren't! ;-)
