I was the most knackered I've felt in a long time as I got up this morning. I could easily have just rolled over and gone back to sleep... that is, if the sides of my body weren't in so much pain. I lay there trying to work out what I'd done yesterday to make them hurt so much, and realised it must have been the bicycle stomach exercise. That is so painful after a few reps... but after a total of 3 minutes, then it REALLY makes you ache.
All morning at work I was yawning and aching and just feeling generally shattered, and by 12pm I was starting to feel sick and shaky again. I had a seeded tuna bun which really perked me up, and I felt much better for the rest of the day. I have realised that you simply can't skimp on recovery foods when you do this much training, or it makes you feel unwell. I emailed William with details of what I'd been eating, however I'm pleased to say he thought stopping my run on Saturday was the right thing to do and it was good that I was getting a feel for when something wasn't going right and being sensible enough to change the session.
I got home tonight and went for my 1 hour run. I wore my new trainers today for the first time, and within a mile I felt very bouncy. It's amazing that I can feel this tired and feel so comfortable doing easy running. It's almost as if my body says "Oh thank God... she's doing something I can actually do!"
I really did feel very good, which surprised me after being so tired. When I hit 30 minutes I turned around to come home and the wind was in my face fairly strong, plus I had more inclines to deal with on the way back...the first part is definitely easier.
I was about half a mile away from home when I realised I'd been in a world of my own and hadn't realised how near to finishing I was. I noticed that I was very springy, almost as if my calves were doing all the work, and it may be my imagination but I felt like I was "in the air" a bit longer than normal (if that makes sense). Reaching my house, to my pure amazement I found I had ran the second half 5 minutes and 34 seconds faster than the first half!
So... magic trainers, or the start of running better? I hope it's the latter... however I have to acknowledge that it could just be one of those good days, and tomorrow is another day altogether!!!
