...to another!
I've been working out my calorie intake and been a bit more careful what I eat...only to find I've lost 2lb in 2 days and have no energy. The tracker I was using said I should only have 1200 calories a day (which I thought was a little extreme) so moved it to 1400 (plus extra to compensate for exercise I do).
That still wasn't enough, and on todays run which should have been easy, I felt over tired and lacked energy. I know it's not because of the amount of training because my iThlete this week has been 70+ for HRV readings, and my heart rate this morning was the lowest I've seen it this year, at 55!
So, I came home and have eaten well and feel much better. I think I'll go on what I feel I need and not worry so much about it all. And WHY am I sweating so much? God it's awful! It should have been lovely and comfortable today because it was cool and there was a gorgeous breeze on the sea front where I ran. Within half a mile, the sweat was dripping off my forehead and my T-shirt was drenched by the time I got in. I don't understand it... Graemes' friend (who is a boxer) said this is what happens as you become fitter, but I'm not so sure. My mam is getting the odd jibe in that I am probably going through the change.... what with me being the ripe old age of 40 and all that! (Don't you just love parents!!!)
Graeme lost his job again today. They didn't want to let him go but there wasn't enough work to keep him. I wish he could get some stability in his work life. It's a constant worry!
Hi Cabbey,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're having a bit of a rough time at the moment.
With respect to your ithlete readings - although low resting HR is normally a good sign, there is a less common form of overtraining known as parasympathetic overtraining, where your resting HR becomes unusually low, and you feel very tired. Although very difficult to diagnose reliably, ithlete does detect sudden drops in morning HR and will give you a red = rest for that day. The fact that you are restricting calories, and hormones may make the situation more complex. I'm putting the finishing touches to a free booklet that will be available from myithlete.com with expert coach contributions that should help make sense of this. In the meantime, if you want to send me a screengrab of the most recent readings in the Edit view, I would be happy to take a look at them. Hope you're feeling much better soon. Simon.
Thanks very much for the info Simon, but my readings have been really quite good this week (3 days in the 70's, where the odd 70 is normal) I've also had a lot of "green" days and the HR is only 2 beats lower than normal. My training has increased substantially over the last 5 weeks, however if I get concerned about my readings I will definitely send them to you, thanks for the offer of your help, it's greatly appreciated. I find the iThlete to be very reliable!
