Well, they saved the best workout to last *please note the intense tone of sarcasm* Today was a speed session on the treadmill, preceded by 10 minutes of skipping. I only managed to do 7 minutes, however I'm better at skipping than I thought. Next week will be 10 minutes...even if it kills me (and it probably will!)
Then it was 10 minutes easy running on the treadmill, followed by 10 minutes as fast as I could (keeping to the same speed for the whole 10 minutes). I managed 10.5 KM per hour, however was willing the time to go past as it really was very difficult for me. The 5 minutes easy bit was done by walking instead of slow running (although it was mentioned that I could do this). Then, before I knew it, it was time to do another 10 minutes fast. I tried level 10.5 again, but only lasted a minute before turning it down to level 10. I was absolutely exhausted during this stint, and it took all the willpower I had just to keep going. I even started to feel sick and a bit dizzy in the last 2 minutes. It was so hot... which I'm now thinking is maybe my lack of fitness more than how much heat I can take!
The 5 minute walk was over far too quickly and I had to do yet another 10 minutes. Can I just point out here, that I have NEVER done anything like this before... any speedwork I have attempted in the past has been (at best) half hearted and easily given up on.
The last 10 minutes were attempted at level 10, however dropped down to level 9 just to ensure I actually finished it still being upright. Then it was another 5 minute walk and finally 10 minutes easy run at level 7.
I'm gutted... I'm even slower than I thought... I really do have a very long way to go! Pukey Tuesdays are definitely going to be my dreaded day!
I love the title of this one!! You say you're slow...but that's why you've got a proper training plan, so that you can improve. You'll get speedier as you go on, you know you will. I struggled on the treadie tonight in the heat, and I only got up to 10kmph for 2mins!!
