Decision made

OK, so yesterday was supposed to be a 16 mile run and it just didn't come off. I decided at the 3 mile point that I didn't feel up to it, so turned around, finishing 10 miles too short.
Unfortunately TOTM really wipes me out. I'm fine before the event, but not so grand once it arrives.
Today, I got an email from the event organiser at the Fife 50K. He assures me that it is fine to do the event and take longer than 6 hours as long as I'm ok with the cones being taken away before the finish. Thats fine with me, I thought, so decision made, I am entering my first ultra.

So, this morning I planned on doing the other 10 from yesterday, meaning I am only 5 miles behind my weekly target of 46 miles. I didn't feel great and even put 3 walk breaks into the run, but finished 1 minute quicker than I have ever achieved before. It made me think about an ultra runner who had commented that when he tried to run a marathon he DNF'ed, however because ultra running normally incorporates walk breaks he found them much easier to do.
I always beat myself up about not being able to "run" a marathon. I can run 20 miles, but that extra 6 just does me in.
It's given me a different viewpoint to doing this... walk breaks really don't make you slower... quite the opposite.
