Well, this cough just went from bad to worse and I ended up with a chest infection. I've had a week of antibiotics and a week of no training so I can try to get rid of it quicker. The doctor told me most people have the cough for 6 to 8 weeks and I can confirm that I'm still coughing a little (but nowhere near as bad). So, I've been in the sauna (much to the delight of my Facebook friends who are all speculating what my Fetch training description of "I've done OTHER" means) and I restart training tomorrow. Shaun emailed and suggested a very slow start which I can maintain for longer by not using my full aerobic capacity, after I had said I would try my first run on the treadmill and bail if I cough my insides out.
I got the full instructions for the 24 hour challenge in May, and I feel all fired up about it. Working things out, (and if all goes to plan) I should be able to get to around 5-6 hours long run in before then. The beauty of this race (and the race I'm entered into 4 weeks after that) is that there are no time limit pressures to worry about and I can just do my own thing. Of course, I have some targets in mind but it's too early to set them in stone. All I know is my new training programme should set me up better for this than what I've done before (see... even slow or bad races from the past help you learn vital information for the future) and I'm much more positive now. I now know your body will only take you so far in all of these challenges. Then your head has to take over!
