Casting off

No, I'm not talking knitting! My cast was taken off my ankle this morning and I was so chuffed to get rid of it. It was an absolutely horrible sensation as the nurse cut it off, and Graeme was very disappointed I didn't looked like a big hairy smelly freak when it was removed. I was actually really shocked to see my leg and ankle looked very normal... no swelling, no bruising, although it was very stiff and I could hardly move my foot at all.

By the time the doctor had come back in to the plaster room, I had been gently swaying my foot back and forth (a comment the nurse quickly told the doctor when he came in, saying I was doing really well). The doctor then proceeded to press it at a few different places and I was delighted to find there was no pain at all. I commented to Graeme that the painfree moment would not last long and Tim the physio would put payed to that!

So, although it was slow, I walked to the car unaided. The weather was really terrible with thick heavy snow, so I didn't attempt to drive. Graeme took me up for my physio appointment later on in the day and Tim was really surprised at how great my ankle was. He said this had definitely been thanks to them putting my ankle in a cast, which a lot of hospitals refuse to do nowadays. He manipulated it with as much pain as I anticipated and gave me exercises to do over the coming week. I'm to go back next Wednesday with my wobble board so he can show me the next stage of exercises. Because my ankle is not painful now, and only needs to loosen up with the extra job of me getting my propreoception back, he said I can walk on the treadmill this week (progressing to powerwalking after a couple of days), and next week (after my appointment with him) I can restart running! Fabulous stuff.

I also had my phonecall with Ania from Vitality and Food. It was very indepth and interesting, however I'm unable to afford the 6 months 1-1 course with her. I've booked onto her 21 day health kick challenge (which I think will help a lot) and you never know... I may be one of the lucky 8 people she picks to get 3 free months at the end of this month. She did mention she would put me on a candida free diet for a while. I've read up on it and there are loads of foods in that category that I currently eat.
