Blenders and benders

No... I'm not planning going on a bender, but I think Graeme might be....
Yesterday whilst walking around the shops I happened to see a Vitamix blender. Now, I have been wanting one of these for about a year and a half, but the price tag always puts me off. It was in the January sale and as I stared at it very excited, Graeme said, "Sod it... lets get it while it's on special". Luckily for us, I found out there has been an issue with my pension this month and the payment can't be done until the end of February (something to do with my employer changing bank details), so we had the money there waiting. It felt like it was almost fate!!!

So, we got it home and watched the accompanying DVD. It really sounded amazing. Not only does it chop anything and everything, but it makes soups (heated due to the friction of the blades) and can even make ice cream and sorbets too!!!
This morning I attempted my first green smoothie. I expected it to taste absolutely awful, but it was lovely. PLUS, I couldn't eat anything afterwards until about 1pm (about 4 hours later) because I was so full.

This afternoon, Graeme is making his Cambodian Wedding Day Dip (I had to put the link in... it's too tasty not to share!) and he is going to make me a frozen margarita (my favourite drink outside of the champagne department!). I only want him to make enough for one glass, but I think he has other ideas. ;-)

This afternoon, after lunch at my mams house, I did some padwork with Graeme. I absolutely love doing this as I feel like I get a great workout. My ankle is surprisingly good and apart from one exercise where I had to keep stepping back, I had no aches or pains in it at all. I'm doing my physio exercises religiously and everything seems to be going in the right direction. I've now been gluten free for four and a half days and have noticed a really big difference, so I'm going to carry on with that for the forseeable future and see what happens. I expected a 'roll of the eyes' and a disapproving look when I told my mam and dad that I couldn't have roast potatoes for dinner because they coat them in semolina (to make them cruncy... apparently that's a Nigella Lawson tip) and I would have to bring corn flour for my gravy because Bisto has wheat in it... however, getting to my mams today, I saw a big tray of roasties and a small tray with a few on their own. The smaller tray was for me with no semolina on it. :-) They were both very interested in the gluten free thing actually, and asked if I thought it could help them. They may give it a go... they may not. I'm here if they need advice though.

And we have arranged for Graemes' brother Paul to come over on Friday for tea so we can discuss the hows and wheres of getting to Connemara in April. I'm so pleased I have a race to plan for, although after reading somebodies race report from last year, it sounds very tough. It sounds funny and good fun too though, so I can't wait. Hopefully I get to run sometime next week. I'm very excited... I have new running tights and Yaktrax to try out!!!
