Ding dong merrily on high!!!!

What an awful trip home from the Cayman Islands. Delayed by about 33 hours, by the time we got home we were absolutely shattered. I somehow managed to get to work on time and on Sunday I finally decided we needed to get into the festive spirit and buy a tree. We went to the local gardening centre and there was one I really liked, so along with that we bought a few decorations.

When we got home, we quickly realised we had bought an absolutely massive tree, so much so that with only 2 of the 3 tiers assembled, we knew the place we usually put it was out of the question. Graeme went back to the shop to buy more lights as we didn't have enough, and I made 2 garlands while he was there.

Once he had got back and put the lights in the correct place, I started to put the tinsel on. I was on the third strip and having to stand on the arm of the sofa to reach the top when suddenly my foot slipped off the chair and my ankle bent with a horrible crunch... Almost like a truck driving over snow and compacting it. It hurt and I writhed on the floor with Graeme asking, "What the hell was that noise?". I told him calmly it was my ankle and could he get me some ice. Within a minute of it happening my ankle was elevated and being iced for 15 minutes. I told Graeme I needed to go to A&E and he suggested I at least wait until he had took the kids back home. I felt sick and very hot and waited for 15 minutes to pass while I iced the injury.

At the end of the timing, I looked at a big bulge sticking out of the side of my ankle and decided A&E was the next step. I rang my mam and asked if she could take me... At least that way Graeme could put the tree up while I was at hospital. By the time her and my dad came, Graeme was back with tree instructions.

We got to A&E and my dad got me a wheelchair. It was a long wait and I watched my ankle getting bigger and bigger until eventually I was called in to the Doctor. He winced as he saw my injury and started pressing in different areas. This was the part I was dreading but the more he pressed, the more confident I became. No part hurt apart from the bottom of the swelled site. He said he thought it was a very bad sprain, but would get an X-ray just in case.

After the X-ray the woman gave me a piece of paper and sent me back to speak to the doctor. On the way I read the paper which said, "No injury found". I was very pleased. Another hour wait and the doc called me back in. He was shocked at how much it had swollen up in the last hour and told me I had a grade 2 ligament tear however because of the swelling I needed to go back in 10 days for them to make sure it isn't a grade 3. The good news is he thinks its only grade 2 and said because I'm relatively fit I could be up and running (literally) before 6 weeks. He told me the next 48 hours were crucial and how I deal with my ankle in that time will determine how quick my recovery is. I asked about going to work and got a flat NO because I can't elevate my ankle there and I'm only allowed back on Wednesday if I can take crutches.

So, it's now Tuesday and the swelling has gone down although is now all around my foot. It looks like its going to bruise a fair bit too as its all pale blue at the moment.

I emailed William and he just couldn't believe it. Same here, how unlucky am I? My mam would say that something is trying to stop me doing all of these ultra races, but not me. It just makes me all the more determined. So which races are off next year? I'm not sure. Llanelli looks unlikely at the moment and I may just have to be there as support for Graeme. But, I'm saying nothing about anything at the moment.... Until I know the rate of recovery for this, I'm cancelling nothing!!!! Send me healing vibes please. :-)
