Hardly a vintage year

Well, as I sit here writing my last blog of 2012, I am not exactly shattered to see the back end of the year... it's hardly been what you would call VINTAGE! I ended my running mileage with a terrible 339 miles. I know people who do that in a month!

So, since my last blog, not a lot has happened. I received a letter from the hospital asking me to go back to see them and they promptly wacked a cast on my ankle saying it was too injured to not be supported. They said I could have it taken off in 3 weeks, however I received another letter telling me I have to keep it on until the 15th of January. That will make it 5 and a half weeks from the day I injured it. I contacted my physio who said I'm to see him straight away for rehab, so I get the cast took off at 9.30am and I'm in for physio on the afternoon. I sent him the photo of my ankle 2 days after falling and he agreed that it is a grade 2 (possibly 3) strain judging by the swelling and bruising.

So, the year hasn't been the best, but I have learnt a lot because of it. I told Graeme the other day that no amount of tiredness or uncomfortableness (not including a possible injury) during a race, would make me DNF... I would never give in like I did in Fleetwood for example (pissed off at the race director for not being entirely honest on the course or the impending weather conditions). So... you can always take something positive out of something quite shit!

It hasn't arrived yet, and I'm not religious in any way, but as a good luck omen, Graeme has bought me a St. Christopher necklace. I'm waiting for the jewellers to open in the new year and ask if they can put an inscription on it for me. I think, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" is rather apt.

So, there's no point looking back with regret. Things all happen for a reason. Of course, falling over so late in the year has another downside. My first race of 2013 will have to be cancelled, so Llanelli is just not possible. I checked with William and he agrees that 40 miles in February is not feasible. I'll still be going to Wales though, and cheering Graeme on in his attempt at the distance.

So, all that leaves me to say is Happy New Year to you all. Thank you for continuing to read my blog and here's to a fabulous 2013 for us all. *Raises a glass of VINTAGE champagne*
