A great goodie bag

Cayman has just got even busier with runners. Today was registration day for the marathon and there were loads of people wandering around with the red Digicel drawstring bags that we were all given. Inside the bags were some fabulous items, including sunglasses, sun block in a little handy size bottle complete with metal hook to attach it to your race bag, lipsalve, hydration bag, foam bottle carrier, phone arm band, tech t-shirt, flashing red led light and pedometer, reflective arm band, soothing gel, vouchers for smoothies... the list goes on...

So, there are a lot of very serious looking runners here. A load of them all went out running at 8am this morning... all Garmined up! I heard one runner talking to his friend about his hydration and fuelling programme for the next 24 hours. It sounded very technical. Of course, this is a Boston qualifier, and because it's fast and very flat you're bound to get a lot of serious runners trying to get a good time to qualify. I suppose the heat and humidity is the only downfall for many. One woman back from her first run in it today spoke to us in the lift and said the heat was pretty unbearable for her. I found that on my first day too. Of course, the locals all think it's quite cool at the moment and say we are lucky to be running this time of year. Remind me of that tomorrow please ;-)

I was feeling a bit nervous about the race this morning, but I'm not as bad now. I see other people far more concerned about finishing time than I am, so to be honest I haven't really got anything to worry about. The thing about me, though, is I often get nervous about training runs if it's hilly, or further than I'm used to, so it's just the way I am.
