Unconventional

Yesterday was the first time for months that I was able to take the dog for a walk across the beach banks. It felt great to be out and although it was a slow meander and only around 2.7 miles in 50 minutes, I felt so good just to be able to do it again.

Getting back home I immediately went up to my gym and did 100 squats in sets of 20 (same as last week) and finished off with supersets of leg extensions and curls. Despite the light weight, my legs were shaking afterwards and I found walking downstairs quite tough. My foot felt quite achy too (probably not surprising) so after a bath I iced it, which worked marvellously.... I may do that from now on for the forseeable future.

I had training on the brain last night, and spent a lot of time thinking about how much I am looking forward to getting back to tough training. I'd seen a picture of Shaun on Facebook dressed in chainmail ready for an XL walk and had commented that it looked a lot more comfortable than the rugsack I had used to do heavy weighted walking. This spurred on a conversation with Graeme about how I would really like some chainmail as a wedding anniversary present. When he got over the initial delight of thinking I wanted it for an entirely different reason, he said to find him a link for exactly what I wanted and he would order it. He is aware that for the last 2 weeks I have scoured the Internet looking for weighted vests for exactly the same reason, so was happy that I appear to have found the perfect solution.

Luckily I will be able to hide the chainmail under clothing so won't look quite as much of a nutter as I will no doubt feel. And will I be posting pics of it on Facebook? I think not. I'm not as brave as Shaun! :-)
