One of these days, I will put the years' plan together for races, organise my training, sort out my holidays, book relevant hotels and go and have a blast at each and every race.
Today is not one of those days. Today I cancelled the hotel rooms in Carlisle and Newcastle, looked into cancelling the time I had off work in June and put my race entry for "The Wall" up for sale. To be honest, I think it may be too late to get a buyer, despite the knock down price I'm offering it at, so if I don't get any takers, I shall refer the place to next year.
Needless to say, the trip to the podiatrists did not go as planned. My foot is definitely healing, but it is healing so slowly that he thinks strained tissue may be an understatement and maybe it is a micro tear. He told me that even if I had a miraculous recovery and was pain free in a week, the risk of re-injury was so high that I would be really stupid to consider even walking 69 miles in June. I was gutted.
So, what can you do? Not a lot really... face up to facts! I have looked at time off available at work, and have pondered the possibility of adding an extra day at the beginning of our trip to Dubai and Bangalore in November. This gives us an extra day in the heat (Dubai being 5 degrees warmer than India) and, of course, a longer holiday! It sounds good to me, lets see what Graeme thinks when I talk to him later.
I will not give up! I now have padding on my foot and the boot has been taken away. It feels really comfortable so I'm confident this is a good phase to move on to. The podiatrist advises that if my foot is still in as much pain in 2 weeks I should have an MRI scan done. He definitely doesn't think it's a bone problem (thank heavens... he was talking about osteoporosis at the beginning of the appointment, but something I had said later made this diagnosis practically impossible) Phew *wipes brow*
Oh and boy have I been ill. This cold has been terrible. It has knocked a few people where I live off their feet, so I'm not alone. Oh well, may as well get rid of it now. If ever there was a time to be ill, then this has to be the best time, when it doesn't ruin any training schedule. Silver lining and all that...
