New menu

Now I'm no preacher... or at least, I try not to be! Ask me the reasons why I'm vegan and I will ask are you sure you want to know the answer before I spill the beans. Most people shake their head and say, "Actually, no, I don't want to know", and that's fine by me... I'll shut up. During my meat eating years I didn't want to know either.

Today Helen (my receptionist) and I went next door to The Olive. Helen had a cream scone with a hot chocolate covered in whipped cream and marshmallows... I had a black coffee because there were no cakes on the menu I could have. As we sat there, Helen asked about cows milk and I told her all about it as she sat listening with a very horrified look on her face. She had asked and said she wanted to know, but I felt awful that it had been me who told her. I suppose I'd rather she had found out some other way.

We were just about to go when one of the cafe owners came up and told me that they had had an absolutely huge response for their vegetarian and vegan offerings... so much so, they have expanded the choices and now have piri piri veggie burgers and vegan tikka masala. The other owner then came up and joined in the conversation. Apparently they had watched a programme on red meat last week and they haven't touched meat since. It's weird what makes you have a change of heart isn't it? They said it was something to do with saturated fat that changed their perception. Anyway, the more they know the better, as it will improve my choice of food around here no end. :-)

I made a cake yesterday... my first since I was at school!!! It didn't dip in the middle like my last attempt all those years ago, however it did fall apart when I tipped it out onto the cooling rack. I must be more careful next time. It was gorgeous too. I had it with soya cream, which tastes perfectly normal to me now!
