Rainbows

Yesterday I was given the dreaded news that an airboot was probably the next course of action for my foot. It isn't healing, and when I put it to the podiatrist that I've 'mostly' been resting it, he said that I haven't at all, and proceeded to ask me do I walk around on it, do I stand on it? etc. That does not consitute rest!

I had found a link on the web about metatarsalgia and it showed my exact site of pain, exact symptoms and even put a possible cause of wearing heels too. All of the intermediate solutions to the problem had already been tried, so it was time to bite the bullet and get an aircast boot.

Today, I have it on. It's very comfortable (which is just as well, because I have to wear it for 6 WEEKS!!!) but I look like a storm trooper. After only 3 hours of wearing it my foot is aching like mad, but I suppose the enforced rest is going to do that for the next few days.

So, that means there is no 24 hour challenge in May for me. I emailed the organiser who very kindly said I can have a full refund (you don't get that sort of response in bog standard races, do you?), but I hope I can maybe do this another year as I really fancy giving it a shot!

I'm looking at this in the most positive way I can. Last year I was plagued with injury on the same foot (different diagnosis however) and because 3 ultras had to be cancelled during the year, I insisted on booking up for India to make up for it. I wouldn't change last year for anything, as it turned out to be brilliant at Bangalore and I feel it was all meant to be. So, May is coming out of the diary, but who knows where I will end up in August/September and who knows what that race will entail? And I'm sure I'll come back fitter, stronger and more lithe.
If you want a rainbow, you first have to put up with the rain!
