I started training yesterday (the conservative way) and really am on the bottom rung of the ladder. Of course, looking at it optimistically I am in fact on the "First step" of the ladder with a bit of a climb ahead. I managed 2 miles yesterday on a 5 run 5 walk basis and despite the first mile feeling horrible and giving the impression I was running on a crumpled up sock in the forefoot, after .8 of a mile this went away. I iced my foot immediately after the run and it's feeling good. Today I have to take the day off from running. William emailed some advice about a slower build up and I'm taking the advice and doing what I'm told.
The vegan diet is going marvellously. I haven't weighed myself (that's tomorrow morning) but I find I can fasten a pair of shorts that haven't fit me since April 2009. I feel pretty amazing... Still waking up before the alarm each day (which is a bit of a bummer on the weekend though) and have more energy than ever before. I don't need to eat as much as the food is more nutrient dense, however once my training gets going again I'm sure my appetite will increase, as it usually does.
The one thing that I'm not enamoured about however, is something that happened to me on Thursday. I went for a coffee at my nanas house, only to find there was a horrible smell in her home.. I couldn't work out what it was as I've smelt nothing like it. Nobody else seemed to notice so I didn't say anything. My nana is always cooking and her house always smells of food, so it was wierd. The next day I was in Tescos and I smelt the same aroma again. I can only liken it to something rotting in a drain! Passing a cafe I smelt it again and my receptionist said it smelt absolutely fine and was it possibly the smell of meat cooking that was bothering me? My first thought was "Oh God, I hope not". I got home on Friday and had totally forgotten all about it until Saturday morning I walked into my local co-op and smelt it again. It has been suggested by a vegan on Fetch it could be minced meat as this has the same effect on her, however it was also suggested that cows milk smells "off" after only a few days of becoming vegan, but that's not true for me as it still smells absolutely fine as far as I'm concerned. Well... Time is about to tell, as I go to my mams house while they cook their Sunday roast.... Please please please don't let it be ALL meat!!! What I don't understand is why this is affecting me now and not when I became vegetarian, but Graeme seems to think it might have something to do with me still eating food that contained animal products/fats etc at that time.
So... Only an hour to go to my dinner at my mams house, and I find out!!!
