Before I get going, I'd just like to say thank you to Jane for the "Hug in an email", it was very much appreciated.
Yesterdays' food intake went quite smoothly, although my intentions of going deep water running were thwarted by the fact Graemes' MOT bill came in at £910. I sort of wasn't in the mood to do anything when I got that news and neither was he, so we had a sofa evening and watched a load of crap on the TV. So, my soya recovery milk is ready for tonight instead where I'm off to do the hill climbing machine at the gym. It's a tough workout and I'm planning on attempting an hour of it.
My boxing gloves came yesterday and they are rather smart looking, so maybe tomorrow night when Graeme and I get home from work we can have a session with the pads or something.
I found a thread on Fetch for vegans and vegetarians and have already gleamed a lot of useful information. They all seem very helpful on there too. I also got an answer back from Vegan Runners UK about membership. Although there are no strict guidelines he said it is preferable to be a vegan for a month before becoming a full member. I thought that was perfectly reasonable, as at first I had considered waiting a month before emailing them anyway. I would wear their running vest with pride! :-)
Today I had some porridge (which I've never been a great fan of at the best of times) with soya milk. It tasted fine... about as fine as porridge can get!!! The dog ate what I had left (as I definitely made too much) and he loved it. He was sat with a big dollop of it on his nose afterwards, looking at me as if to say he wanted more! For lunch I had some broth that I had made yesterday. I originally thought I was making vegan broth but it turns out the gravy granules are only vegetarian so I had to buy some other stock. I made enough for my receptionist Carol, and she said it was, "Bloody lovely". She's joking that she will end up eating a load of vegan stuff at this rate too.
I'm trying to notice how I feel/look too. Switching to a vegetarian diet, I have to say, didn't make a difference to how I looked and felt at all. This morning I got up half an hour before the alarm and felt... erm... "Sunny" is the only way I can describe it. I'm sure this is a pure coincidence however as I think it takes a few days for your diet to start having an effect on your wellbeing, doesn't it? I read last night that a vegan diet has all sorts of benefits... one of them being great for asthma. I even read about how in some cases it can get rid of asthma altogether. I hope that's true... mine is fairly mild so I have as good a chance as any to get rid of it I suppose.
I've also been on the thread for the ultramarathon in Llanelli on 31st March. I've changed my hotel in line with everybody else who are all staying at the Premier Inn. I've only met 4 people from the thread, so it's going to great to meet everybody. They are very helpful and have been very sympathetic over the issues with my foot.
As for the foot, it continues to improve daily. I'm praying I'm ready for a run on Saturday so I can just get on with it all! It's been a right bugger to get rid of!
I've got a cookbook "Vegan Cupcakes Rule the World" with some great cake recipes for when you want a treat. Let me know if you want me to email you any of the recipes?
