In deep water again

I've made a discovery.... my foot aches 2 days after exercise as opposed to the day after (like it used to). I'm also like that with DOMS... always gets me the second day. So, is that a good thing, because the foot issues normally come on much quicker? I sat thinking about it this morning as my foot felt achy right across the middle of the sole. I considered phoning Paul (my podiatrist) and then thought again. What could he tell me that I don't already know? It's strange because it isn't anywhere near as severe as before (thank God) but it's quite irritating. I don't know if I'm being over cautious over it or just wise to the situation. On a whim, I googled foot neuroma and read all the stuff I already knew, and then read something that I'd forgotten about... the Mulders click! Oh yeah... I used to get told off for keep "clicking it" by Paul, who told me this is purely a diagnostic thing to do and I was only irritating it further checking if it was still there every day. It's been a long time (maybe 9 months) since I checked to see if I still had a Mulders click... it was time to try it again. I held my foot in the correct position, putting my thumb and index finger in place and squeezed the width of my foot... nothing! Really? I tried it again... Nothing! This is fantastic news!

While out for lunch, as I walked, my foot felt uncomfortable. I have ran previously on a foot this uncomfortable and not done myself any favours. I decided there and then I wouldn't run tonight. I'd help it along to recovery as quick as possible. So, I came home tonight and got all of my things together ready to do some deep water running. It's been a good few months since I've done that, so I was looking forward to it. I got to the swimming pool and was over the moon to see tonight was not a popular night for the kids and it was very quiet. Within 2 minutes I was completely out of breath and finding the session much harder than I anticipated. After a few more minutes however, this calmed down and I settled into the exercise quite well. Luckily they know me at the pool now and don't bat an eyelid at my strange "zero gravity" suit and shoes!

I spent the last 10 of the 30 minutes by pushing quite hard and when I got out of the pool I felt shattered. Coming home I actually felt all shaky like I'd worked very hard indeed, so I'm pleased with todays' efforts. The pool closes early tomorrow so I won't be able to do DWR again. Who knows... maybe the extra day off will be enough that I could try an easy run tomorrow. I know one thing... my new headtorch is literally burning a hole in the bench where it lies... I'm dying to finally give it a run out! :-)
