I'm pleased it is the end of the week and I can have a weekend off work. I came home today and did my 30 minute step with my 3KG dumbells (which was very tiring and my legs ached considerably) and then went into the shower and had my recovery shake. I'm sure they have changed the formula for the recovery shake as it tastes absolutely awful and has big white lumps in it which don't dissolve and taste very chalky. I shall be looking for an alternative as it is totally minging!
Jacob, who I met in India contacted me and asked what were the things I was wearing over my trainers in Bangalore that kept out the dirt and stones and where can he get them from. I sent him the link for Likeys and said there was a very good chance that if he emailed Sue and Martin they would arrange postage to India as they are very helpful. It turns out he's tackling a 100 miler across the desert and thought some gaiters would be useful. (You're not kidding mate!)
I've had a recent consideration on kit after reading my email about the 24 hour challenge and recommendations on what I should take. A sleeping bag and mat was suggested, and as I perused the multitude of sleeping bags on offer I immediately fell in love with a big squishy comfy looking thing... it was far too expensive (but that's just typical of me) but I suddenly realised that I simply couldn't buy it. It is filled with goose down, and I couldn't help but wonder how many geese had had to be slaughtered to make it that lovely and squishy. Vegetarianism hasn't brought me to the extremes of clothing/shoes... duvets... until now. My bed has a down filled duvet, but that was bought a long time ago when my opinions were different. Unfortunately the synthetic ones look like deflated cushions, but that's what I'm going to have to buy. I'll have to get something like a 400 tog to ensure it's warm enough!!!
So anyway, back to training... I finished off todays' little lot with my core session. I felt very tired before I started and really couldn't be bothered... but I did it anyway! Today I did reps of the back bridge (10 reps with each one held for 3 seconds) and it was a very different experience. A bit more tiring I would say! William emailed me about the heavy weighted walking with a change to how to execute it because it is a long term training activity so needs to be slotted into my week correctly. I am to do an hour of it with 10KG tomorrow and slowly build up each alternate week until I'm up to 15KG. Once I'm used to this, the heavier stuff will follow on a Wednesday, but for now I'm just to experiment for short periods and continue with my Wednesday runs. So, tomorrows planned route will have to wait until next week as I'm walking and not running. I may have a go at walking part of the same route and make sure I work as hard as I can during the hour.
You'll be better off with a synthetic bag for what you're doing as if it gets wet it'll still keep you warm, whereas a down one will be useless if it gets wet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pegg, yes Shaun has emailed and more or less said the same thing. :-)
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend thermarests (the women's ones are better as they have a bit more padding around the bum and thighs were women get colder) but if you're on a budget try www.alpkit.com Great quality and generally lower prices.
