Last night I felt awful. My head felt like it was full of cotton wool, and I had become concerned that every time I listened to somebodies hearing aid at work, it sounded muffled and distant. My ears going "off" are often a sign of a cold. Graeme had a stinking cold last week and I managed to ward it off with vitamins, paracetomol and warming healthy food... but maybe it hadn't worked.
I sat in a sulk because I felt I shouldn't run, and then decided to "sod it" and do yet another treadmill run (while waiting for the carpet fitter to come and finally sort out our living room carpet), even if it was only for half an hour. I did the run and felt better for it, although found out that the carpet fitter had a problem and we have to wait until next week to get the carpet fitted. Arrrghhhh... I was annoyed!
So, the thought of yoga in a freezing gym did not muster up much enthusiasm, so instead I made a pan of broth. (Poorly food!). Of course I'm used to doing a chicken broth so used quorn and mixed this with white cabbage, red onion, butternut squash, sweet potato and white potatoes. It was absolutely gorgeous (I have some for lunch today too) and in hindsight, it really didn't need the quorn and would have been just as nice without it! I'm turning out to be quite the cook!
So, the plan was to get up at 5am today and do a 30 minute run (as I am off to the rehab centre to see Jill tonight in her posh new surroundings and new wheelchair). Getting up was easy, and to be fair so was getting out of the door for the run. I felt completely wide awake but didn't seem to have much energy. My breathing felt a little laboured (but I don't think this is anything other than what happens during a taper). William had said to practice the run/walk so I did 40 minutes altogether, including the relevant walk breaks. When I got back I found my pace had been around 10:43mm overall, so have readjusted my target for Amsterdam. I was originally hoping for a little PB, but I don't want to knacker myself before India, so will stick rigidly to the plan.
Only one more small run to do before Sunday now. I'm really looking forward to it, and bet we have a great laugh. I will be out of synch with the others on the day though, as I'm trying out a short sleeved top (which is white) and they will all be in their Fetch colours... even Graemes' brother has bought a Fetch top! I'm wearing Graemes' arm warmers just in case it's cold. I did want to wear a sleeveless top in India, but the recommendation for the hydration backpack I'm wearing is that it has sleeves to avoid chaffing... and after seeing Graemes' chaffing recently, I know I don't want any of that!
