A nutritional error

A few days ago, I got an email from William saying that my pre race nutrition needed "attention". This was after the more indepth race report he sent me which I filled in and sent back.

Today I got another email from Shaun explaining that my calorie intake for Amsterdam was too low, and they appreciated the fact that I found eating so early difficult so how about trying Complan instead as liquid would be easier for me to cope with. He added that if I had taken on more energy, despite having no taper for Amsterdam and without even trying, they are pretty sure I'd have got a PB. I sat for a bit and was rather stunned by that sentence. The way I ate on the morning of that marathon is the way I always eat. My friends Kerry and Terry have commented many a time that they don't think I take on enough on the morning of a race, and I've often shrugged it off because it genuinely would be impossible for me to eat anymore on a morning without being sick. I often watch Graeme downing every calorie he can get his hands on and feel ill just sitting beside him whilst he's doing it! I just hadn't considered having a liquid start to the day. So, I will try the Complan at the weekend. If I have a double sachet and have it with whole milk, it will be a whopping 772 calories. Jesus.. it will be like I've had rocket fuel compared to what I normally consume!

This afternoon I did 1 hour on the treadmill, and with this new knowledge of the nutrition in mind, I maintained a 10:20mm pace for 15 minutes and walked for 5. I wore the Fennec top and it was great. I also wore thermal running tights and went into the sauna immediately after for 18 minutes. This is also the longest I've coped with the sauna after doing a run, so all in all it's been a good day.

I mentioned to William that I felt like I really needed a taper, and he said after all of the hard work, it's just how it should be.
