Still aching

Yesterday the aches and pains of the previous day seemed to wane later in the afternoon. I headed out for my 1 hour run and chose a route that is horrible... starts on a hill and has the first 3 miles mostly on an incline. I had to endure horrible tiny black flies that covered my top and went in my eyes. (I later found lots of dead ones in my hairline and all over my neck). It was very humid and about 23 degrees, which, at worst felt a little irritating. It was the sweat running into my eyes which was the most annoying thing, however someone has told me about putting vaseline above my eyebrows to stop this happening. Seeing as tonight will be intervals in a sweltering loft, I shall treat this as the opportune moment to try this method out!

When I got home, Graeme was lying on the sofa whingeing about the humidity and then his brother Paul walked through the door in an irritated fashion and said he couldn't stand the heat. I couldn't help but think I wasn't suffering to their extent and this was really my first "idea" of how my body was coping now because I add the sauna training into my weekly schedule!

I was helping a friend out last night and so didn't get to do my core session. When I awoke two or three times during the night full of aches and pains (which were from Sundays' workout) I realised it was probably a good thing I hadn't done the core work too or I'd be in even more pain today. I have to admit that I feel really stiff from the small of my back upwards!

My new UK Gear trainers came yesterday from Likeys. They are really nice looking, although at first glance they look like heavy work boots. In actual fact they are really quite light. They have mild stability in them (as do my Kinsei's) but I am unsure how they will feel when running in them. One tester did their trials on a treadmill, so I have decided to try them out on there tonight and give them an outing on the beach tomorrow for my 45 minute run. I will have to put some compeed on a few different places ... to be honest I will have so many plasters on my feet before long, I will start looking like an extra on "The Mummy"

Oh... and an interesting fact about yesterdays run and route... I ran this the fastest I have ever done before, and to be honest I wasn't even trying for a fast pace. Whilst training for the fire brigade tests in 1998, I ran this 2 minutes slower than yesterday... and I always look back at that time as me being at my very fittest. I suppose that moment has changed to now! (I could only deadlift about 50KG then too). Shows all the hard work is worth it!
