I was dreading intervals today... especially after last weeks' abysmal effort. As I drove around all afternoon fitting hearing aids on a domiciliary basis, I was far too warm in the car and even the air conditioning didn't seem to be very cooling.
So, getting home I went straight out with the dog for a walk, and then when I got back I made my recovery drink and put it in the freezer (I have discovered that it tastes even more amazing when you do this).
I began todays session with a 10 minute warm up on the step and was sweating buckets half way through this. The temperature in my little gym was a very warm 29 degrees... I have NEVER ever ran in this heat before. (24 degrees has been the most, which was Marrakesh and a total disaster). I was wishing the whole thing to be over before it began if I'm honest.
I did a 10 minute warm up of running on the treadmill (not that I needed warming up!) and then began the intervals. I decided to be a bit more conservative than last week and not start at an 8.35mm pace. Instead I did a 9.13mm pace... in the hope that I would not slow up at any point until the whole thing was done.
To cut a long story short, I managed to do the lot (with walking recoveries) and stuck to the pace for each interval. I even ended up being a little faster than last week overall. I honestly can't believe I managed to run in 29 degrees. I have 2 thermometers up there... so I know it was the right measurement.
The 10 minute "cool down" was anything but, however, it got done too. I only managed a measly 8 minutes in the sauna afterwards... I was just completely overheated!
When I was done, showered and rested, I went over to my mams house as she was having problems working out the Garmin website. As I was sorting it out for her I suddenly realised that all the "put offs" I had done with regard to updating software had not been a good move, as her details were much better than mine with lots to analyse. I immediately came home and downloaded it all, which took ages, but I can't be outdone by my mother, can I? This means that if William and Shaun want to analyse a run for whatever reason (it was good/bad etc), I can now email it to them to look at. There's nowhere to hide now. ;-) Maybe the damn thing will now allow me to upload my runs to Fetch again too.
So, I'm feeling really happy with todays training. Tuesday is my most dreaded day, as intervals will never be something I find easy.
I'm also very proud of my mam who has now lost 7lb since starting to run. She's ecstatic and is now at the point where she doesn't give a damn if anyone sees her out running.
I'm off to the physio tomorrow. I haven't been to see him since before being laid up with my foot, however my training is really coming on now so it's time to get a check up. All feels OK though, which is good.
Thursday will be my weigh day again. I have been losing something in the region of 1/4 of a pound each week, and I suppose most people would be gutted at that but I'm really chuffed as it is just fat that I am losing. My body fat is slowly going down and that is really all I'm concerned about. I think when people lose pounds and pounds each week it tends to be to the detriment of their muscle mass or their hydration. So, all in all, everything is going well. :-)
