Within 30 minutes of being told I shouldn't run Basel I had sent an email to William and Shaun requesting their help to find a new challenge for mid July. I was quickly answered with the question, Do you want to do this abroad?, at which I replied "That would be nice, yes". A very funny response came within an hour saying how about the Clyde Stride... and it is foreign because it's in Scotland and that means it won't be too hot. Of course I had to have a little dig at the heat in Edinburgh every year for the marathon and the lack of water too... :-)
Looking at the distance (40 miles in under 10 hours) I felt this was a great challenge. I'm looking forward to it and now have a full 16 weeks to train for it. Fantastic!
They also suggested doing step training (as I'm allowed to walk, just not do the pounding during running thing) and last night I gave it a go. I used a measly 7 inch step (which is supposed to be better for endurance running than a high step) and managed 25 minutes really easily. I was sweating profusely, but it was easy. I stopped at 25 minutes and decided to see how it would affect my foot today.
I'm pleased to say there is no detrimental effect on my foot at all, so I know I can take this up a notch. In fact, my foot has been great today, so I can see the podiatrists logic with regards to an extra week off running and then slowly getting the distance back up over a few weeks.
And so... onto the weekly scale measurements. In the last week I have lost 1.6lb (which is unusual for me...I normally gain weight). My bodyfat has gone down by 0.7%, visceral fat down by 1, BMI down by 0.2, Muscle mass up by 0.1% and body water up by 0.5% Very encouraging stats!
