The physio spoke to me on the phone last night and advised me to give my podiatrist a ring to see what he thought about the problem I'm having with my foot.
I rang Paul (the podiatrist) today, and I practically only got half a sentence out when he said, "That sounds to me like it is Capsulitis of the second toe". He said that, of course, he couldn't be sure without seeing me, but I was doing the right thing icing, taking ibuprofen and having total rest until Saturday. I have an appointment on Friday morning before I go to Grantham for him to give it a check.
After speaking to him, I googled the condition and I literally have EVERY single symptom of it, apart from (fortunately) the latter stages of it when your second toe starts to lean towards your big toe. It describes the early stages to a tee... pain on the ball of your foot during weight bearing, sometimes feeling like you're stood on a small stone, slight swelling of the affected area, and finding it difficult to walk bare foot.
So, it can be aggravated quite easily, but wearing the wrong sort of shoes can kick it all off... funnily enough, I have been complaining of my foot aching while wearing the wellies that I walk the dog in (this is when I feel like I'm standing on a small stone), tight calf muscles and poor biomechanics can also cause the problem. The last time I did barefoot running on the treadmill I had to stop because I got a sudden cramping feeling (in the same area that hurts now) so maybe that hasn't helped the situation after wearing wellies for long walks eh? So, it's all just speculation at the moment, and irrelevant of the cause, I will be getting it checked out on Friday and shall make sure that it gets sorted and doesn't happen again!
I had a message on my wall (at the Ultra race website) from a girl asking for a lift to the start on Saturday morning, so I've messaged her back and said that it was fine. Not long to go now...
Oh, and I accidentally fell upon a tab at the top of my blogger page saying "Stats" yesterday. I was amazed to find it showed how many people have looked at my blog (and from lots of different countries too). Wow... makes me feel a little embarrassed, because I just tell it how it is on here, and often don't think that many people read it (I know I have a few followers, but I only know of one person who reads it regularly). But people in USA, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Italy etc?? Crazy stuff... can't believe you all aren't bored to tears. ;-)
