Today I went to the swimming baths and did a session of deep water running. I haven't done this for about 2 years, so was a little worried that I would find it very difficult. The reality was, it was great! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wore a floatation belt today (when I have previously done DWR I have normally done it without a belt) and I have to say that it is much easier using one.
I did 10 minutes at an easy pace, then did a length (11.5 metres long) at a sort of sprint effort. It took around 30-40 seconds and was extremely tiring. I did a minute or so easy recovery and then repeated the process until I'd done 8 sets, finishing off with a few minutes easy effort (taking me to 30 minutes).
It wasn't until I got out of the pool that I realised how hard I'd worked. I walked up to the changing rooms and felt like I was a bit drunk...walking in a zig zag line instead of a straight one!
I'm very pleased to have found my "thing" to replace the bike session on a Friday. I hope I can build up to doing 2 minute intervals... the same as I would have done on the bike!
I got home and cleaned my bladder for the Camelbak. I haven't used it for about 8 or 9 months, however I will need to use it for Grantham so have decided to start using it in training on my long runs again. The truth is, I am looking forward to using it as the hydration belt I use is a little uncomfortable sometimes... although I will miss all of the little pockets it has!
