Prevention...

...is better than cure.
Tuesdays interval session did not go to plan... after the first interval and recovery I gave up. I felt absolutely awful with a very sore throat, so stopped the treadmill and went home to lemsip and an early night.
I'm pleased to say I woke up on Wednesday feeling absolutely fine. After a days work, I got home to heavy rain and an impending run. So, without much thought, on went the running gear and waterproof jacket and off I went. It was surprisingly easy and I felt myself bounding along after taking the first mile a bit easier. Looking down at my Garmin I was running a sub 9mm with the same sort of effort I would normally put in for a 10mm. It felt great! The last half mile incline was tougher (it always is!) but no tougher than usual. I finished the run at an overall pace of 9.34mm.

So, after sorting out Pauls' accomodation for Amsterdam, Graeme and I went up to the loft to do our squat session. I started with 2 sets of 15KG for a warm up (arse to ground squats). This is the first time I've done this with more than my own bodyweight and you could definitely feel the difference. I then did 8 sets of 6 speed reps at 35KG. This was managed comfortably (I thought) until I walked down the stairs afterwards and my legs felt like jelly. They feel ok today though... I am yet to do a squat session that makes me ache afterwards. Maybe that's one part of my body I do have strength in eh?

So, because I'm off to Portugal on a works conference, I won't get chance to do anymore training until my free time on Sunday morning. When everyone else is nursing hangovers, I shall be doing a 2 hour 30 minute run. It will be good to run somewhere new... and in shorts because it will be 16 degrees! Bargain!
