Giving it up!

I got home from work today and went straight out for my run. Lincoln wasn't impressed, but I promised him a nice walk when I got back.
I took my inhaler 30 minutes before the run again (which seemed to work well on Saturday) and set off into the cold dark windy wet night.

The first 2 miles were a little uncomfortable as I was really achy all over, but the more I ran the more it all eased off. I was really enjoying running with no pain whatsoever in my chest and it felt like I was back to the days of Hadds training where I would do a lovely slow amble and hardly break out in a sweat...only this time I was running about one minute faster per mile than I have ever done with Hadds. By the half way point I was thoroughly enjoying a completely easy and enjoyable run but realised that the party would soon be over... I had to run back into the strong wind, and uphill to boot.
I turned around and for half a mile didn't notice any difference in my chest or effort... this was great! I ran the hill... no problem at all! I then did the last one and a half mile into the wind where it is very open and unforgiving. This required much more effort however was still fine.
I can't remember the last time a run was that easy. Is it because I felt so light? (what with not carrying all the stuff I have to for a long run these days), is it because of better control of the asthma? Or maybe it was just a really good day. Well, whatever the reason was, it reminded me of how great running can be!

I got home and asked Graeme how far he was running tonight. He was supposed to run on Saturday and didn't, he was supposed to run on Sunday and didn't. He looked at me thoughtfully and said he didn't want to run anymore... he hates it. He feels like he gets home from work and by the time he has ran and eaten he has no time to unwind before it's time for bed. I suppose that's the difference between us. For me, the run then logging it and then having a hot bath is an unwinding time for me.
So, this time he really is giving it up! He has asked me to remove his application for Basel (which I have entered but luckily not paid for yet), he won't be running Grantham either. Because Amsterdam is paid up, he says he may change his mind by October and run that... or he may not!
I think he's made the right decision. It's obviously not his thing, which is a bit of a shame because with proper training, I think he would be really really fast! C'est la vie!!!
