I went back to work after 4 days off today. It was a good day and the break definitely did me the world of good.
I decided this morning to test the chia seeds to the limit. I don't understand how people can have only fruit for breakfast... don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who eat loads first thing, but if I don't eat something substantial I am hungry by about 9am and end up going to McDonalds.
So, I had a big glass of smoothie with a scoop of chia seeds. Whenever I've had one of these previously (minus the seeds), I've ended up feeling really full for half an hour and then ended up at said fast food restaurant within an hour!
I got to work and had a stock take to do, which took me up to 9.40am. I thought about how I was feeling on a hungry scale, and I wasn't at all. This carried on until 11.40am (5 hours all told) and I then felt hungry and we went off for lunch at about 12.10pm.
Graeme had half a bowl of cereal with the seeds for breakfast (he normally has 2 full bowls) and said every now and again during the morning he felt hungry but the feeling went. He said he really felt full of energy, as did I, however I had put that down to having a few days off work... so who knows!
It will be interesting to see how I get on with the hydration tomorrow when I do my long run. I'm looking forward to pushing up the time every week by 15 minutes. I really love a long run... it's why I think I'll love ultras.
Speaking of ultras, I put a comment on facebook about not getting into VLM but it was good because I'd be entering my first ultra. I clearly didn't think before posting, and got a couple of comments on it. I was regretting being so open until I got a very nice post from a really great ultra runner saying I would do well, which I thought was a nice thing to say.
It's a bit embarrassing saying you want to run an ultra when so many people you know already run them and do them well. It's a bit like a 5K runner announcing their next race is a marathon! However, I've always been overly ambitious. I got a golden bond place for 2009 London Marathon before I'd ever entered any race and was only halfway through training for the Great North Run.
If ambition and stubbornness is anything to go by, I'll do OK.
