Tired but full of beans

I'm tired today. I didn't realise how tired until I started to do todays training. Skipping was awful, I kept tripping over the rope and the whole of my legs were aching. I thought about yesterdays' run and realised I probably picked too difficult a route and ran it too hard for a day when I should have been taking it easy. Oh well, lesson learnt!

The barefoot running was also very tiring today. My feet ached for the first couple of minutes which fortunately wore off, but the last 2 minutes the balls of my feet felt very tender after pounding along on my forefoot on the treadmill. That wore off too though, so it's all good.

The intervals were rubbish. I did the first and second at 9.20mm pace with 11.40mm recoveries (which is a faster recovery than I've done previously), but the third interval I immediately started at 10.15mm pace and that was hard enough as it was. If I'm honest, the whole of the second interval I had to fight with myself not to walk because I just felt shattered.

The 10 minutes cool down didn't seem to cool me down at all... my face looked like eggs could be fried on it and I was soaked from all the sweating!

So, that's the tired bit talked about... now the "full of beans" bit. William and Shaun kindly hunted out a suitable ultra for me to do as my first attempt. They suggested one in London (6 hour track event) and one in Switzerland (12 hour event)... well, it was no contest really!
So, I had a good look at the Switzerland one on the website, and at first thought hmmmm... laps which were just under 1200m in length... then I saw the map... tons of food tents, changing tents, massage station, floodlit course (as it starts at midnight) and photos with people looking very cheery before, during and after the run. I thought about their reasoning for suggesting laps (no cut offs so no pressure to get to points before the threat of being taken off the course, good support all the way etc) and immediately thought... yeah, that sounds great.
Basel also looks a beautiful place to visit. I spoke to Graeme about it, and at the moment he's not sure if he will be just supporting or running it with me... however I haven't shown him the photo of the medal yet... that's usually all it takes!
