I read an interesting article yesterday about Chia seeds. They are referred to as the "running seed" because native Americans used to eat them when running to enhance their endurance... Aztec warriors also ate them!
The thing that impressed me was the fact that they are fantastic for hydration...soaking up 10 times their weight in water (and apparently they maintain electrolytes in the body too).
There was a bit in the article about a health pioneer who decided to test them out by splitting 2 groups of hikers up (one group using Chia seeds only, the other group could eat what they wanted). The Chia seed group finished the hike 4 hours and 27 minutes before the other group! Amazing!
So, finding the bloody things wasn't an easy feat. Nowhere in the UK have them, so I eventually found a place in the US that not only post them out to you but auto ship a pack each month also.
So, I'm looking forward to giving them a go. Incidentally, they are even good for weight loss... no wonder they call them the "miracle seed".
It's a rest day for me today... good job as I have had such a manic day at work. I didn't even get time to eat until 4pm! My calves were very tight when I got up this morning (just when I thought I'd got away with it) however are nowhere near as bad as last week, so that's encouraging.
