Recovery

I got up to go to the loo during the night and my legs had completely seized up. I was worried I wouldn't be able to walk today, but a few hours later when it was time to get up I was feeling a lot better.

This afternoon, I got home from work and was umming and ahhing over going out for a recovery run. I was in the middle of thinking about it when I looked down to see I had already put my shorts on and had a pair of running socks in my hand. Mind over matter I think you call that!

So, I went out for 3 miles. I averaged a 11.56 minute mile and my HR was around 135 for most of it... so it was the perfect recovery run really. There's one thing I've become aware of recently, and that is that I'm used to running through discomfort and pain. When asked if my quads hurt during the race, I have to admit they didn't at all....however they must have done some work as they have hurt like hell since. Today, the discomfort of aching muscles was again ignored and off I went. It made me feel so much better for going and my legs I'm sure will thank me for it.

I'm going to start doing runs first thing on a morning. They are going to be short (a maximum of 3 miles) and they will always be done at a very slow easy pace with low HR. The normal running on an evening will remain the same. This nugget of information comes from a Fetchie, El Bee, who advises me you can add 10-15 miles a week onto your normal total without even trying and without risk of injury. He is a Hadder as well, so he knows his stuff. It was quite enlightening talking to him and his wife about improvements in running.

I've been looking at stuff for our new dog. I was most shocked to see a harness is around £140. I was thinking that he will of course have to become a Fetchie... and everytime he wears the harness he gets his miles logged. :-)
I've even found out that you can do an 11 day race in France. It comprises of 11 races at either 2.5K or 5K, but a dog is only allowed to run once a day... a human is allowed to do 2 races a day but must have a second dog to do it. Once the dog is over 2 years old, they are allowed to enter races of 21K+
I can't wait to get him!
