Oh Lord! That was the hardest hill I've ever had to do IN MY LIFE!
I did a 2 mile warm up and then attacked it the first time, getting up the 0.32 of a mile incline in one go. Damn near had a heart attack at the top mind you. I gave myself plenty of recovery at the top before running down it at a fair speed too (not overly fast, but enough to give me some downhill running practice).
Again, I rested at the bottom before going again. This time I was much steadier in pace and had the odd comment from the old folk who live on the hill, like "Ohhhh, you'll not be running that fast by the time you get halfway up". They were right, the second attempt was far more feeble, with a stop to compose myself two thirds up and then another quick "breath catcher" about three quarters up it.
I was exhausted at the top, and had a cyclist comment to me that the hill was hard enough to walk up let alone run! It made me feel a tad better.
I then ran down it again and finished off with a 2 mile cool down. My HR was all over the place, and I have to admit that the Hadds stuff has been not closely followed lately due to feeling rubbish/choosing hillier routes/weather.
So, if you look at the elevation on mapmyrun below... you may see why I nearly had an asthma attack, stroke, coronary... etc!
Ooo, the blog has gone all posh looking since I was last on here! Well done for doing your hill route. I'm throwing a few hillier routes back into my training now. Slowing down (even more) to do them, but doing them all the same.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing you at Woodhall :-)
