Yesterday was strange. My iThlete showed up an AMBER day, telling me to take it easy. It was a rest day, so this wasn't a problem although if I had had a running day, I'm sure I would have managed it fine.
It felt completely bizarre to have the day off with absolutely nothing to do and nowhere to be that would impinge on a normal running day. I have to admit I felt a bit like a lost sheep and ended up spending far too long on the computer, which in turn, made my eyes ache by the end of the night.
I did a very daring thing too. I fmailed another fetchie who is running Comrades this year, and told him it's on my "one day I'll do that" list. I asked him how long he had trained for it, how many miles he does and a few other general questions. He still hasn't answered me.
I also bravely put a post onto the ultra marathons thread on Fetch, and asked about pacing. They were really fantastic, made me feel very at ease, and asked about the race I'm signed up for in May. The general consensus is that I've picked a great one for my first ultra, 50K being a good distance, flat and the loops will be great for a first timer.
Today my iThlete showed a RED day. Although the number was exactly the same as yesterday, I obviously haven't had any improvement after a day off, and it's warning me to have another day. So, that's what I'm going to do. After all, there is no point me using it if I'm just going to ignore the advice.
I can't help but wonder if the lack of good food yesterday has played a part. I ate:-
2 boiled eggs and 2 slices of toast for breakfast
2 biscuits mid morning
Scampi, chips and a whole tin of beans for lunch
Chicken madras and a large portion of pilau rice for dinner
2 squares 85% dark chocolate
Not the best diet eh? The previous 2 days I've been vegetable crazy and have definitely felt like that food made me feel good. So, this is an interesting scenario... I shall have to note how food makes me recover, depending on what I eat.
