.... but they don't give me enough of what I need during the run.
I took half my usual supply of Cliff Shot Bloks today and substituted the other half with pieces of Mars Bar. To my surprise I thought they tasted great and they didn't make me feel nauseous, but by 15 miles my hands puffed up like a balloon and my legs felt like lead.
I think the lead in the legs probably had more to do with the 8 mile run I did yesterday (this is my first attempt at back to back running when one run is a fairly long one), but my hands bloating up is a problem that only Shot Bloks have been able to help in the past... they have enough electrolytes in to solve the issue!
So, unfortunately today, although trying to stick as best as possible to my 30 minutes run/2 minutes walk, I ended up doing a little longer than 2 minutes walk each time, and the last 5 miles were just pure torture which was ran/walked. I even had to adopt a "race strategy" in that I would tell myself to get to the next lampost then I could walk but then talked myself into running a few more lamposts before stopping.
I got back home and had absolutely nothing left in my legs at all.
A lovely salt bath, compression tights on and some food made me feel more human again.
I can't be disappointed though... I've had 2 new achievements this week.
1). I have ran two high mileage weeks in succession.
2). I did my first back to back run (even although yesterdays was only 8 miles for my first attempt).
