I had titled the blog "Enjoying being slow", but thought it best not to put myself down ;-)
Tonight I did an 8 mile recovery run, keeping my HR at around 137 bpm for the majority of the time. I even managed to keep my HR relatively low on the hills too, which was good.
One thing that surprised me about the Kilomathon was how flat it was. There was only very small brief inclines that didn't really bother me (the benefits of living in an undulating/hilly area I suppose).
It felt great to run really slow tonight, finally having 100% conviction that the slower running really is working for me. I have to admit there has been many times where I have questioned whether Hadds was making me faster... I often thought it felt like I was much slower.
A number of people on the Hadds thread commented on feeling "race blunt" instead of "race sharp", and not knowing if this feeling would transpire to a really crap time. For the last couple of weeks, I have noticed a difference in my lactate threshold runs (which are basically like tempo but maybe slightly faster). I have found them easier, much more comfortable over a longer distance and although I still dislike them, I can see how they benefit. I do think this is the big difference in HR training. Some people run at 70% WHR (which is much faster than Hadds version of 70% MHR), but don't seem to do the LTTHR runs. I'm so pleased this is the version I decided to do.
