I wasn't looking forward to my 10.5 mile run yesterday, however once I got out I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I have realised, finally to my advantage, that if I eat white bread 2 or 3 hours before a run and not start off too fast I have a really good session.
I ran the first 3 miles with Graeme before he had to turn back (for his scheduled 6 mile run). And that's another thing, I run much better on my own for some reason. I don't know why, I suppose it's the pressure of keeping up with somebody else that does it. I have to say that Graeme is really good and as soon as I say my HR is too high he slows down to compensate, but it's much nicer when you don't have to ask anyone to slow up because you're doing your own thing anyway.
I did mention the Kilomathon and London to him last night, telling him that I will not be keeping to the same pace as him or his brother Paul, and they should just go off and do their own thing. We will always be able to meet up at the end.
I have suddenly become one of those lone runners, that just wants their own space and time to do whatever is needed. I remember only too well when I first started running alone because of the injuries Graeme had... I found it very difficult to make the transition from running couple to running person. I think I must have finally adapted!
This morning when Graeme woke me up I felt like a total zombie. I genuinely didn't know what day of the week it was or even what planet I was on. Doing the iThlete reading came as no surprise when it flagged up a RED day, indicating rest. It was a scheduled rest day today anyway, but it's good to see the new app is doing it's job properly. It's definately worth the £35 I payed, anyway.
My diet has gone all haywire again. The higher the mileage, the more fat I crave in my food. I read an article yesterday about how the first 30 minutes during a run when your body is burning only carbs it feels uncomfortable and when you start to burn fat also, that is when the run starts to become more comfortable. That is so true for me. I also read once that a woman FINALLY has an advantage over men when it comes to long distance running, as we are much better at burning fat than the less fairer sex. Makes a change that we are better at something, doesn't it?
