Bruised
My squat session went fairly well on Wednesday and I got an A2G PB of 5 sets of 5 reps at 37.5KG. The first time I did 27.5KG I felt like my legs were going to buckle, so another 10KG is great so quickly. Unfortunately, the full range reps at a meager 45KG were really tough. I asked William if this was normal after doing so many A2Gs and unfortunately it isn't... seems I am suffering from all of the setbacks I've had.
I was looking forward to doing my hill reps and decided before I left the house to do only 3 reps as a first attempt. I ran the first 10 minutes as a warm up (totally forgetting I should have done a dynamic warm up instead) and then went straight into the first rep. It was really hard and I think this is only the third time I have ever ran up this hill without a walk break. I was gutted to get to the top and find it was only 0.4 of a mile... I could have sworn it was between half a mile and 0.6, but there you go... it seems not! I walked back down to recover and then turned to run back up the second time. Half way up I had to walk as I coughed my insides out and I basically struggled all the way to the top where I coughed a lot there too. I jogged home and put it down to experience. I've never done this sort of thing before so I'm sure I will improve quickly (especially when the chances of coughing up a lung are seriously diminished).
Today, because the gym is closed and there is nowhere I could do my rowing, I was advised to do "A good walk" instead. So, after popping to see Matt Rogerson who is running to all of the premier league football grounds for charity and giving him a goody bag of food (and the essential B-Vits of Marmite), I went to the cinema and then came home and took Lincoln for a walk along the beach.
We ended up walking down very steep inclines and declines, across the beach with huge pebbles and rocks and across sand and grass. We did just over 4 miles and averaged 15.14mm pace (which is pretty good for me on such terrain). Even Graeme said he thought my walking pace was much faster than he had ever seen before, so that's good! My legs were really stiff before I went for the walk, almost to the point they felt bruised, but they are feeling much better now. So tomorrow is a long run/walk followed by a walk later on to get the time on feet done. Graeme has bought wine for tonight but I'm not having any. How strong willed am I, eh? ;-)
